Read in 3 minutes

We all know blogging is an affordable and influential marketing tool for small to medium – sized businesses to use to help keep in touch with their customers. But many local businesses find it hard to keep their blog up to date with consistent and relevant content. We’ve put together 7 tips to revive your blog to make sure it’s a staple in your marketing approach

Know your customer

Who are you writing your blog for? Find out more about your customers, their buying habits, their likes and dislikes. Tailor your content to target your audience’s key interests, this will help your blog to keep relevant and keep your customers reading.

Consistency

Posting regularly helps more than just keeping in touch with your readers, it also alerts search engines that your website is active, boosting the strategic side to your marketing approach such as SEO. Implement a monthly scheduling calendar and plan in time to write, edit and publish your content.

Collaboration

Don’t be put off by the term ‘influencer’, think about working with someone locally that you know and trust. You could approach an industry expert to guest write a blog, or record a short video. This approach helps promote both parties, builds brand awareness and your reputation.

Variety

Like you would on your social media pages, mix up your blog posts so it’s not all words or just pictures. Record a video, get a useful infographic designed or even reduce the amount of text you use (but don’t always write short blog posts, Google loves longer blog posts!). Using a variety of content helps to keep your blog from going stale and increases its shareability on social media.

Interact

Encourage conversation, make sure you share your blog posts on social to give your audience space to respond, comment or share. If a customer comments, send them a reply back, this level of interaction is the added value that will set you apart from the rest.

Stay on trend

The world changes quickly and we need to ensure we keep up, share timely content, that could be anything from a breaking news story relevant to your industry or a viral trend that you can somehow relate to your brand for fun.

Recycle

Use your blog content again! Turn them into customer newsletters, share on social media or even contribute to other blogs. Sharing your content in different ways brings you more traffic, creates consistency in your messaging and helps your customer to make you feel familiar to them – this means they’re more likely to remember you when they need your services or product!
